Meet Alix!
Alix is originally from Miami, FL where he was raised by Haitian-American immigrants. He first discovered his love for yoga at age 12 when he attended a class with his mother and savasana turned into a 20-minute nap. Alix returned to the mat during his first semester as a Division I swimmer at the George Washington University where yoga added balance to a rigorous training schedule. The end of Alix’s competitive swimming left him with several voids to fill especially the strong community that came with being a part of a team as well as well diversified workout regimen. In 2013 Alix discovered CorePower Yoga and initially practiced yoga sculpt-- a practice that integrates weight training into a vinyasa sequence. Eventually, Alix began adding power vinyasa classes to his routine. After 10 months of volunteering to clean the studio in exchange for free classes, Alix enrolled in CorePower’s 200-Hour Power Yoga Teacher Training and completed his certification in May 2014. Passionate about making the benefits of yoga accessible to all, Alix specialized in teaching beginners. Additionally he makes a conscious effort to “Tan The Mat”--a phrase he coined to refer to any efforts to showcase and increase the ethnic diversity of yoga practitioners. As the son of proud Haitian-American immigrants, Alix has a deep connection to Haiti. Through Paradigm he hopes to fuse his love of yoga with that of his ancestral homeland. Alix continues to teach at CorePower Yoga and off the mat he devotes his time to a career in advertising at Wunderman’s DC office; promoting diversity in business; writing for his blog--Young, Restless, and Creative; traveling; and coaching with a local swim club--Freestyle Swim DC.
